I am very happy with my purchase and the fireplace installation. My wife and I have used it multiple times since it was installed and it works exactly as advertised. It turned a cold room in to a... comfy room that we thoroughly enjoy.My wife and I were leaning towards purchasing a fireplace with high BTU output and a fan. The team at Harding pushed back, and said we would be too hot. I appreciate their honesty. Consider they gave up a bigger sale.The installers (James + Adam) were thorough, neat and patient answering our many questions. I told them that my former wood fireplace had an ice-cold hearth. I asked them why, and they showed me that the original fireplace was not assembled correctly; it allowed cold air to come down around the fireplace, especially the hearth. It was awful. I really appreciated how they sealed the leak and added insulation. The problem was eliminated.The finishing team (Brandon and colleague) were also meticulous. They did not rush the job. I was out of town during the finishing and they suggested WhatsApp video calls, which worked very well and allayed my concerns.I would especially like to acknowledge Kirsten Neumarker. She is the project coordinator at Harding who schedules resources to install and finish fireplaces. She is very organized and is an excellent communicator. She reached out to me proactively and worked hard to accommodate my schedule also. She would often answer my emails and phone calls in minutes. I find this uncommon among contractors. I changed the rate because the reaction from site office is extremely satisfy. I have no heat during the weekend and complained. I got a respond very quickly from their site office and find out the... reason of no respond. Then a new appoint was scheduled right way! Also a report has been filed towards this issue and I believe communication will be taken to improve future services. I really like this manner! Harding Heating & Air Conditioning were excellent. We had an issue with our furnace fan and I spoke to Natasha Wright (Service Coordinator) who first tried to troubleshoot the problem with me to... save costs, etc. Once that didn't work, a technician, Marc Gagon, attended. He quickly diagnosed the problem (faulty control board), but didn't stop there. He investigated the source - water under the AC coils. Further, he went outside to ensure the A/C unit was working properly. Marc Gagon is very professional, competent and took the time to explain things. AC Repair vs Replacement
Does your air conditioner just need a repair or is it in need of replacement?
When to Repair Your AC
There is a simple rule in the HVAC world: if the repair is going to cost more than half the price of a new unit, it’s better to replace your AC. Alternatively, if your system is less than 5 years old and only requires occasional repairs, replacement is probably not necessary.
When to Replace Your AC
- Age – Air conditioning units over 10 years old may require replacement.
- Safety – If your AC poses safety concerns like carbon monoxide poisoning or fire hazards, replacement is essential.
- Costs – If your unit is inefficient and costing you more and more, you could save on energy costs and maintenance by replacing your current AC.
- Performance – If your AC isn’t performing like it used to, with uneven and inconsistent cooling, it may be time to replace your system.
AC Troubleshooting Checklist
Inside the Home
- Make sure the thermostat is turned to cool.
- Check to see if you need new batteries in the thermostat. If batteries are older than 1 year old, they should be replaced.
- Is the furnace switch turned on? (It looks like a light switch, and is located in the basement usually higher on the wall near the basement stairs or door to the furnace room).
- Check the furnace filter- if your filter is more than one month old you should replace and/or clean it.
- Is the furnace fan running with the HRV switched off and the thermostat fan set to ‘auto’? This tells us if the thermostat is calling for A/C if the fan is running.
- Is the breaker in the breaker panel turned on? Normally it is a double breaker marked A/C.
- Is there water leaking from the furnace? If yes, it is probably frozen- turn off for 24 hours.
- Is there ice on the pipes or ductwork in the basement? If so, the unit must be thawed 24-48 hours before booking a service call. Readings will not be right if the unit is frozen and we will not be able to properly diagnose.
- Is your equipment an Enercare rental? You will have to contact the rental company for service.
Outside the Home
- Is the A/C cover removed from the unit?
- Is the disconnect box turned on? It is a grey box with a plug/handle that is on the outside wall beside the unit.
- Is there ice on the outside of the unit or pipes? If so, the unit must be thawed 24-48 hours before booking. Readings will not be right if the unit is frozen and we will not be able to properly diagnose.
- Are the fins on the unit dirty or clogged? If so, disconnect the high voltage power for the A/C in the panel, then rinse with the water hose (do not use a pressure washer).
- It must be over 18C outside so we can diagnose your unit properly.
Why Is My AC Blowing Hot Air?
There are a number of reasons your AC may be blowing hot air. Try troubleshooting them on your own before calling us for professional assistance.
- Thermostat Issue – Ensure the thermostat is set to the ‘ON’ mode, not ‘AUTO,’ to prevent constant airflow regardless of cooling needs.
- Tripped Breakers – Check both inside and outside unit breaker switches; a tripped outside unit breaker may cause warm air circulation.
- Dirty AC Filter – Regularly clean or replace air filters to prevent airflow restriction caused by dirt and debris accumulation.
- Low Refrigerant Level – Low refrigerant levels, often due to leaks, can cause the AC to blow warm air. Contact professionals for prompt repair.
- Other Issues – If none of the above apply, the AC may need maintenance or cleaning. Professional inspection can identify and resolve underlying problems.

Nobody wants to see that their air conditioner is in disrepair or on the brink of a breakdown. However, it’s important to keep an eye out for early signs that your AC needs repairs. The sooner you get it fixed, the easier and cheaper it’ll be.
