Earth Day! Help the Earth & Your Home with a Green Cleaner

Earth Day

Canadians will celebrate Earth Day this Saturday nationwide. On April 22nd, take a moment to evaluate how your lifestyle affects the Earth and make some adjustments to live a greener life! Even small changes in your daily routine can have a positive impact on the environment.

One way to help the planet and your home’s health is to switch from harsh chemical cleaners to eco-friendly ones.

Distilled White Vinegar

Most people have white vinegar in their cupboards but aren’t aware of the power of this green cleaner. It can be mixed with water in a spray bottle and used as a streak-free glass cleaner or combined with baking soda and water to clean tiles and counters. Vinegar is also a disinfectant, so it’s great to use in areas that may be susceptible to mould or mildew.

Baking Soda

This is another underused item in many households. Swap out the toxic chemicals found in toilet bowl cleaners and use plain baking soda instead. It’ll work just as well and won’t contaminate our rivers and lakes. Baking soda can also be used as a deodorizer; sprinkle it over rugs or carpets and then vacuum it up to neutralize odors better than commercial fragrances filled with chemicals.

Citrus

Instead of using cleaning products that smell like lemons or oranges, why not use the real thing? Using the juice or peels of citrus is a great way to enhance the smell of your green cleaners without adding toxins to your home or environment. In addition, citrus is a natural solvent that can cut through grease and dirt.

Ditching chemical filled commercial cleaners for green cleaners will go a long way to helping the Earth, your home comfort and your health.
