When you turn on the air conditioner, you expect to feel cool air blowing from the vents; however, a common AC problem is an air conditioner that is blowing room temperature or even warm air.
There could be a few reasons why your AC is not blowing cold air:
Incorrect Thermostat Settings
Before doing anything else, check to see that the thermostat settings are correct. You want to ensure that the thermostat is set to COOL and that the temperature is lower than the outside and current indoor temperature.
Clogged Furnace Filter
When the furnace filter is clogged, it restricts airflow, which can make it feel as though the air conditioner is not blowing cold air. If you continue to run the air conditioner, you could trip a safety feature and the system could turn off completely. Make sure you’re checking the furnace filter monthly and replacing as needed.
Low Refrigerant Levels
A common AC problem is low or leaking refrigerant. Without the right refrigerant levels, an air conditioner can’t cool your home. Handling refrigerant requires a special license and we never advise homeowners to try and troubleshoot this type of problem. Please call a certified cooling specialist anytime you have an AC problem caused by refrigerant levels.
Preventative air conditioner maintenance can catch many AC problems early and help avoid service calls for warm air blowing from the air conditioner or a complete breakdown.
