Unusual, but Delicious Grilled Foods

grilled foods

Pass on the burgers and hot dogs at your next BBQ party and wow your guests with these unusual (but delicious) grilled foods.

Halloumi
Originally from Cyprus and popular in the UK, halloumi is a semi-hard cheese made from goat’s and sheep’s milk. It’s extremely high melting point makes it a perfect grilling food and can be served as an appetizer, an ingredient in a salad or as an accompaniment to a main dish. You can find halloumi at larger grocery stores and specialty cheese stores across Ottawa.

Oysters
Many people prefer to eat oysters raw on the half-shell, but grilling them is one way to increase their appeal to a wider audience. Simply scrub the shells and place on a medium-hot grill for about 2-3 minutes until the shells start to open. Serve with a warm butter lemon sauce and enjoy this unique spin on a classic appetizer

Peaches
Instead of serving a heavy dessert, fire up the grill and barbecue some fruit instead. Peaches are one of our favourites as they can easily withstand the heat, produce gorgeous grill lines and caramelize nicely. You can serve grilled peaches by themselves or with a side of ice cream for a refreshing (and easy) dessert.
