July 20th, 2022 is national hot dog day, and if you love making hot dogs on the grill during the summer as much as we do, you might be preparing to make some dogs for yourself and your family. Making a classic hot dog is one thing, but for a day as special as national hot dog day, we think you should get adventurous and try preparing your hot dog with one or more of our gourmet hot dog recipes!
First, Make Your Hot Dog
Before you can start going wild on toppings for national hot dog day, first you need to grill your hot dog to perfection. Here’s what you’re going to need:
Ingredients
- 8-12 all beef hot dogs
- 8-12 of your preferred hot dog buns
Grilling Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium
- Grill hot dogs uncovered for 3-7 minutes or until cooked thoroughly, turning them occasionally
- Serve on your preferred bun

Prepare as directed and top with:

Chilli-Cheese Dog
Prepare as directed and top with:
- Heated chilli
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Sour cream
- Hot sauce
- Corn chips
Mac N Cheese Dog
Prepare as directed and top with:
- Heated mac and cheese
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Breadcrumbs
Chicago Dog
Prepare as directed and top with:
- Mustard
- Sweet relish
- White onion
- Pickles
- Jalapeno peppers
- Diced tomatoes
- Hot sauce
Hawaiian Dog
Prepare as directed and top with:
- Honey mustard
- Grilled peameal bacon
- Chopped pineapple
- Hot sauce
Buffalo Chicken Dog
Prepare as directed and top with:
- Shredded chicken
- Cheddar cheese
- Blue cheese sauce
- Crumbled blue cheese
- Hot sauce
