Who doesn’t love chicken and waffles? This southern comfort classic is delicious, savoury, sweet, and beloved by people all over the world. For the grillmasters out there, you can make this incredible dish on the barbecue as well, it’s just about having the know-how. Here’s how to make our delicious chicken and waffles recipe on your grill.
Waffle Ingredients
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons of white sugar
- 4 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 11/2 cup of milk
- ⅓ cup of melted butter
Chicken Ingredients
- 2 lbs of chicken drumsticks
- 2 cups of panko bread crumbs
- 3 tbsp of chilli oil
- 2 tbsp of bbq seasoning
- 1 tbsp of cayenne
- 1 tbsp of onion powder
- 1 tbsp of garlic powder
- 1 tbsp of paprika
Waffle Instructions
- Preheat waffle iron
- Mix together dry waffle ingredients, then slowly fold in wet ingredients
- Pour a generous amount of mixture into the waffle maker
- Follow your waffle maker instructions to make your waffle
Grilling Instructions
- Set up your grill racks to indirect heating
- Preheat your grill to 325-350°F
- Prepare panko by mixing it together with the spices in a large bowl
- Pat the chicken dry with a clean cloth
- Brush chicken generously with chilli oil
- Roll chicken in panko mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated
- Place the chicken evenly on the grill rack and cook for 40-50 minutes, turning the chicken every 15
- The chicken is finished when it hits 165°F
Plating
Once you’ve taken the chicken off the grill, you can begin plating your meal. Start with your waffle on a plate and add traditional toppings such as butter, syrup, and/or honey. Top with chicken and serve, or add more toppings like whipped cream, hot sauce, fruit, and more.
