A benefit of installing a new furnace is that the heating system is covered by a manufacturer warranty—covering the cost of replacement parts for a certain number of years. However, you have to register your equipment online in order for the warranty to be valid. Luckily, the process to register a furnace is easy and can be done online in only a few minutes.
Every furnace installation needs to be registered with the manufacturer, not the company that performed the installation. The product registration page will usually be found on the manufacturer website and the exact web address will usually be in the manufacturer documentation provided by the installation company.
Before beginning to register a new furnace online, make sure you’ve gathered the necessary information including:
- the serial number of the equipment
- date of the installation (please use your closing date)
- contact information of the installation company.
A furnace serial number is usually located behind the front panel of the furnace and requires the removal of the panel. During furnace installation, it’s always best to ask the heating technician to write down the serial number and model number so that you have the numbers on hand and don’t need to access the furnace for information.
Once you have the serial number, you can head to the manufacturer website: https://www.goodmanmfg.com/product-registration and look for a product registration tab. After finding the correct page, you’ll be asked to input the serial number, your contact information, date of installation and contact information of the installation company. The invoice from the installation should contain all the information you need to correctly register a furnace.
Most manufacturers require furnaces be registered within 60 or 90 days to be valid, so make sure to take the time to register your new heating system as soon as possible. It’s also important to remember that many warranties require annual maintenance to keep it valid—so ensure that you’re getting your furnace inspected yearly and keeping records of the appointments.
