Spring Checklist for Your HVAC Systems

spring checklist

As we transition from winter to spring, it’s important to make sure your HVAC system is ready for the weather change. A spring HVAC checklist can help you identify any issues and ensure that your system runs smoothly and efficiently throughout the season. Here are some items to include in your spring HVAC maintenance checklist.

?Change Air Filters

You should change your HVAC system air filters regularly. Air filters trap dust, dirt, and other airborne particles, and this causes poor air circulation. This can negatively affect your HVAC system and contribute to poor air quality, which can worsen allergies and asthma.

During the spring season, when there are more allergens in the air, it’s essential to change air filters regularly. This will help to improve indoor air quality. We recommend changing your air filters every 1-3 months, depending on usage.

?Check Thermostat Settings

As the weather changes, you may need to adjust your thermostat settings to ensure that your HVAC system operates efficiently. If you have a heat pump or central air, spring is the time to switch from heating to cooling mode. We recommend setting your thermostat to a comfortable temperature and programming it to adjust to your spring and summer schedule.

?Inspect Outdoor Unit

Spring’s a good time to check the outdoor unit of your HVAC system. Again, you should do this throughout the winter, but as the snow melts and shrubs grow, there are more hazards to watch for.

The outdoor unit of your HVAC system can become clogged with debris or damaged by weather conditions. Inspect your outdoor unit for any signs of damage or debris and clean it if necessary. If you notice any significant damage, contact an HVAC professional for repairs.

?Inspect Air Ducts

Over time, your air ducts accumulate dust, dirt, allergens, and other contaminants that reduce indoor air quality. This also lowers the efficiency of your HVAC system. Mould and mildew can also grow in your vents and contribute to health conditions. You should have your ductwork inspected and cleaned regularly. Spring provides the opportunity to get your ducts cleaned as you do your other spring cleaning tasks.

?Schedule Professional Maintenance or Tune-up

Finally, schedule maintenance of your HVAC systems. Obviously, you want to have your AC prepped for summer. But, it’s also recommended to book an end-of-season tune-up of your heating system. Getting both done together can save you time and money. Remember that regular maintenance and tune-ups keep your HVAC equipment running efficiently and effectively and help them last longer.
