The spring weather is a bit slow to start this year, but allergy season is in full swing. Unfortunately for those suffering from allergies, this means several long weeks of irritation from pollen, ragweed, dust sensitivity and more. On the plus side, there are a few things you can do at home to keep your indoor air quality good and keep the woes of allergy season away.
- Clean, Clean and Clean Some More
Cleaning your home is tip number one and the one to live by throughout allergy season. Dust, wipe down surfaces, vacuum and mop to clean away as much dust as possible throughout your home. Take the time to deep clean all of your rugs, carpets and upholstery to remove dust, pet hair and dander that have settled into the fibers.
- Laundry Time—All Day, Every Day
Just kidding! But you should be mindful that pollen will cling to you and your clothing. Change your clothes when you get home, shower and wash your clothing, bedding and towels often to reduce pollen indoors.
- Is That Mold You Smell?
If you do, check for mould. If you don’t, check anyway. A lot of allergies come from mold within a home. It has a distinct, earthy smell that is usually a giveaway in your bathrooms or under your sinks. However, even if don’t smell anything, check in areas where moisture can get trapped to make sure mould isn’t present. If left to spread, mould can lead to severe allergy symptoms and even illness.
